The Lone Parent Helpline is a national service offering lone parents help and advice on the many issues arising from relationship breakdown and coping financially with raising children on their own. The telephone service is supported by an online helpdesk and as well as a wide range of detailed publications.
We are looking for an experienced welfare rights worker or paralegal to provide specialist telephone advice sessions to lone parents, advising on benefits, tax credits, family law, employment and housing. You will work alongside our policy team, identifying problems and issues raised by lone parents to inform our policy and campaigning work, leading to changes in government policy. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to materials and publications for lone parents.
You will need -
- Considerable experience of advice work to the general public
- Excellent telephone skills
- Experience of working with lone parents
- In-depth knowledge of welfare benefits & tax credits as they affect lone parents
- To be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing and be proficient with Microsoft & database packages
- Experience of advising in other areas including housing, employment, family law and debt
- Specialist knowledge in employment and Family Law an advantage, but we will provide training to strong candidates without specialist experience in these areas.
