Advice for Life, formerly Cambridge Independent Advice Centre, was opened in December 1988 and is the principal agency in Cambridge offering advice and advocacy for people in receipt of low incomes.
AFL is affiliated to the Law Centres Federation, Advice UK and the TUC Centres for the Unemployed Network. At present Advice for Life employs 45 people in its four divisions: Corporate and Resources, Law Centres, Social Enterprise and Regional Programmes.
We have recently been awarded funding from the EHRC for our discrimination work and need an experienced Caseworker/Solicitor capable of working to LSC SQM supervisor level to help us deliver this new and exiting project.
As well as the general responsibilities and duties common to all Law Centres, your specific duties will involve undertaking discrimination (across all strands and in employment and non employment cases) casework on behalf of clients, negotiating on their behalf, conducting litigation and representing them at all levels and in all appropriate venues, including judicial review. Full job description will be included in the application pack.
This post is funded until 31st March 2009 in the first instance, however, subject to funding, this could be extended.
